With a full compliment of 17 roller coasters, a plethora of thrill rides and entertainment venues, Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH is undeniably the King of the Amusement Park world.  People’s love for amusement parks has meant that more and more locations have been popping up across the United States and even in other nations across the globe but most of them come across as imitators and not innovators. Still today there is one roller coaster park that continues to win awards year after year…and that park is Cedar Point.

In years gone by, Cedar Point was pretty much known for being primarily a roller coaster park.  It all started with the Blue Streak back in 1964.  Unparalleled at the time, the Blue Streak allowed people who would have never considered themselves to be thrill-seekers to discover that the excitement of speed combined with drastic climbs, heart-stopping drops, and gut-wrenching turns was something to be sought out and not shied away from.

Year after year, additional roller coasters were added to the more traditional carnival-style rides that dominated the Cedar Point landscape at the time.  Coasters began to be found at other amusement parks such as Disney World and such, but no place on earth become so uniquely known for building the highest and fastest thrill rides as Cedar Point.

Cedar PointIf you grew up in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, or Pennsylvania from 1975 onward, the summer trip to Cedar Point became such a common experience that many teenagers considered it to be an entitlement.  Getting a Cedar Point season pass paid for itself in two trips and every visit afterward was practically free, so I remember getting a season pass year after year

As time went on, the Park began to diversity from a pure roller coaster destination, to a more diverse, family-friendly resort.  The inclusion of the Soak City water park, higher-end restaurants,  kid-friendly rides, and eventually an on-site hotel were all improvements designed to increase the appeal of Cedar Point to other guest who were not members of the mainstream demographic of traditional customers.  This was a risky path to take.  Many companies, such as Pepsi,  have found out that diversifying away from the core customer base is just as likely to cause confusion in the mind of the buyer as it is to attract other customers.  The Cedar Point management team decided to take the risk anyways and the move has proved to be successful.  More and more families with young children (a group that would often spun Cedar Point in favor of a Disney vacation) now visit the park bringing in millions in additional revenue every year.

So rides like the Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, or the Magnum XL200 are what you have your heart set on or you are more interested in seeing your little ankle biters flashing big smiles as they hang out with Snoopy, a trop to Cedar Point for a day or two is certain to scratch that amusement park itch and have you coming back for more.

Be sure to check back here often as we’re going to be continually updating this site with Cedar Point reviews.  Everything from the rides to the hotels to the food will be continually scrutinized each and every year.  In addition, we’ll soon be making it possible for Cedar Point enthusiasts like yourself to be able to write reviews of your own, that way anyone can share their insights into how well different areas of the park are maintained and run.
